We had good services at Clifford's Grove Baptist Church Sunday. We were happy to have as visitors, Mrs. Lucy Nell Hopkins Gill of Lavonia and her daughters, Jane Ford of Tampa, Fla., and Peggy Jordon of Monroe. Mrs. Lucy Nell Gill was the guest of honor at her 80th birthday party given by her family Sunday afternoon at the Fitzpatrick Hotel. Mrs. Iris Dyson and Mr. and Mrs. James Sherrer were among the many friends and relatives who enjoyed the lovely celebration. We were glad to hear Mrs. Juanita Bradford had a good report from her doctor in Augusta Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Josh Caldwell of Statesboro spent Friday night and Saturday with Mr. and Mrs. James Sherrer. They visited Mr. and Mrs. Ray Branham, Whitney and Charlie a while Saturday afternoon. James Sherrer attended the funeral of Mrs. James Jacobson at the First Baptist Church in Elberton Friday afternoon. David Hopkins of Augusta and grandson, Seth Cook, visited Mr. and Mrs. James Sherrer Saturday morning. Seth enjoyed telling them about the big fish he caught recently. Mrs. Ricky McCarty visited Mrs. Iris Dyson Saturday night. Sunday afternoon she visited Mrs. Gene Pollock in Washington. Mrs. Lucy Nell Gill of Lavonia and her daughter, Peggy Jordon, visited Mr. and Mrs. James Sherrer Saturday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Willard Lance and Mrs. Iris Dyson went to Lexington Saturday afternoon to attend the engagement party of Kurk Lance and Janet Holcomb, given by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Guy Lance, at their home. I have just about recovered from a fall I had at The News-Reporter office a couple of weeks ago. I was very sore and had a huge black eye. What a sight! Many thanks to Jane Newsome and Bobby Ansley who came to my rescue.
