Funeral services for Robert Willard Blakey, 87, of Tignall, were held Wednesday, April 5, 2006, at Hopkins Funeral Home with Rev. Roy Cates officiating. Burial with full military honors was in Elmhurst Cemetery in Elberton following the service in Washington. He died April 1, in Wills Memorial Hospital, Washington.

Mr. Blakey was a native of Wilkes County and was the son of the late Robert Phil Blakey and Janie Chambers Blakey. He was the widower of Camilla Seymour Blakey. He was a United States Army Veteran of World War II where he earned the American Defense Service Ribbon, the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with two Bronze Stars, an American Theater Ribbon, and a Good Conduct Medal. He retired as a Staff Sergeant from the National Guard after having served for 33 years.

Survivors include a sister, Ann B. Allman of Marietta, and several nieces and nephews.

Hopkins Funeral Home of Washington was in charge of arrangements.
