W-WMS Corner
This past fall, Washington-Wilkes Middle School responded to a challenge from channelOne.com, which is the news program that students watch in the mornings. Channel One asked students to help out schools that were damaged by hurricane Katrina. The W-WMS Student Council, 4-H, and Beta Clubs sponsored a fund-raiser and the students were able to raise $827.58. Rummel High School in Metairie, Louisiana, was the recipient of the money raised by W-WMS.
This week, the school received the following letter from Rummel High School:
Dear Mr. Pendrey,
On behalf of our school, and young men and families that we serve, I offer my most sincere thanks and appreciation for your generosity and support. Your students and school have our utmost gratitude for their efforts to help us in this time of need. I am happy to report that things are slowly returning to normal, but there still remains a high degree of anxiety and uncertainty about the future. However, good works and support from schools, individuals, and organizations from across the country have let us know we are not alone in dealing the challenges that confront us. All our prayers and thanks to the wonderful students, teachers, and families of Washington-Wilkes!
All God's blessings,
Fred Landry
W-WMS is planning future fundraisers to make additional donations to help schools that were devastated by Katrina.
