Kite Day held for pre-schoolers

The First Baptist Church Pre-K had a delightful morning recently when Harris Blackmon, a kite collector of many years, visited to show some of his kites to the children. The kites in his collection ranged from very tiny to 16 feet with many colors, sizes, and variations. Following the presentation, the children went to the W-WPRD field where they flew special kites which they had decorated. Shown above with their kites are (front, lr) Malasia Matthews, Eli Holten, Lydia Norman, Lawrence Gallo, Lola Hammond, Madison Gunter, Joey Baily, (back) Clayton Foster, Makaylah Bacino, Laney Thornton, Ben Strother, Kelsie Scott, Madeline Jackson, and Jack Calhoun. Visitors and local folks alike took advantage of perfect spring weather and enjoyed the 2006 Spring Tour of Homes this weekend. Hundreds of volunteers drove tour cars, dressed in period costumes, and showed off Tour homes from Friday evening through Sunday afternoon.

The Square was especially busy with visitors coming to the Chamber of Commerce, or visiting a tour home, viewing an art show, and enjoying a camp of reenactors celebrating Confederate Heritage Month. Classic car owners added to the old-time feel of the town driving cars ranging from Ross Maynard's Model T to Guillaume Slama's Rolls Royce.
