The weather is terrific. The flowers have been so pretty and the birds sing so merrily. The little hummers are here and I'm looking forward to sitting on my porch some. The grass is growing and I will be working in my yard some. Peter Cottontail will be hopping down the Easter trail pretty soon and I've seen egg trees all around and other Easter decorations. The children are enjoying a much needed spring break from school. J.W., Johnny and I really enjoyed our chicken barbecue plates Thursday, cooked and prepared by the FFA of Washington-Wilkes. There will be an Easter egg hunt and party at Sardis Baptist Church Saturday, April 15, at 10 a.m. and all children of the community are invited. If you can, bring a bag of wrapped candy eggs. If you want more information call Denise Armour at 706-274-3208. Sardis Baptist Church will have an Easter sunrise service Sunday, April 16, at 7 a.m. A breakfast cooked by the men of the church will follow at 7:30. Sunday School will be at 8:15 and worship service at 9 a.m. Rev. John Mark Carpenter and members of the church invite anyone who would like to attend to do so. Beaverdam Baptist Church will have an Easter sunrise service at 7 a.m. Sunday, April 16. A breakfast will be held in the Barrett Fellowship Hall immediately following. Rev. Jim Edwards and the members of Beaverdam invite anyone interested to attend. A scrapbook party will be held at the home of Denise Armour Saturday, April 8, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Denise invites anyone who would like to come to do so. Tuesday afternoon, Bonnie Boatwright went to bingo. Also going from our neck of the woods were Martha Wells, Fran Thaxton, Marian Poss, Troy and Shirley Chafin, J.W. and Kathleen Canup and Margaret Peterman. A bunch of other bingo friends from all around also came for the fun and excitement. Congratulations to Misty Rebecca Bradbury and Sean Walton Canup who were married in a beautiful wedding service at the First Baptist Church of Watkinsville Saturday, March 25. Sean is the grandson of J.W. and Kathleen Canup of Lexington. Our sympathy goes out to the family of C.B. Bankston who passed away last week. They were our neighbors at one time and he was a good man and loved everyone. I worked at Clark Schwebel with two of his daughters, Mary Ann Shank and Elnora Crawford. He will be greatly missed by his family and his many friends. His funeral was at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Saturday. Our prayers are with the family. Our sympathy also goes out to the family of Marshall Williams who passed away this past week. He had a friendly, jolly nature about him and was always ready to help you any way he could. Mrs. Bobby Bunn, formerly of Wilkes County, had surgery Monday, April 3, in Monroe. She is Vickie Sisson's mother. Our prayers are with her and Vickie who has also been on our prayer list for a long time. We wish both of them well. Our prayers are with Gary Rogers who is in an Augusta hospital and not doing well. Most of his family and many of his friends have been with him and we wish for him a good recovery. Barry Echols spent Friday afternoon with Fred and Ann Corbett. Their other visitors have been Frances Bridges, Billy Bridges, Danny and Beverly Corbett, Charles and Nina Boatwright, Esther Dawson, Penny Callaway, Ruth Flynt, Shirley Bufford, Catherine Callaway, Mildred Sisson, Rev. Jim Edwards, Elaine Mathews, Lawson Owens, Shawn Turner, and Bonnie Boatwright. Janet Lewis and Ashton of Athens spent Sunday afternoon with Billy and Doris Walker. Penny Vaughn of Martinez spent Tuesday with her mother, Mrs. Annie Blanche Vaughn. Malcolm and Jean McDonald of Rome spent the weekend with Annie Blanche. They visited Mrs. Grace Ferguson in Washington Saturday night. Randy Boatwright, Carmen Boatwright, and Brandon Echols enjoyed having Sunday dinner with Charles and Nina Boatwright. Avery Hall spent the weekend with Wes Tanner and enjoyed going camping down at Elijah Clark Park with him and his family, Phil and Lavonda Tanner and Brett. Mrs. Ruby Arnold visited her sister, Mrs. Sallie Mae Arnold, in Flatwoods one day. Spending the day and enjoying dinner with Buck and Linda Echols Sunday were Greg and Angela Armour, Samantha, Cody and Hunter, Will Callaway, Scott and Sissy Smith, Abby and J.T., and Richard and Lou Heard and Mattie. Visitors of Ralph and Elizabeth Smith over the past week were Charlie Arnold of Athens, Bobby and Sandra Arnold of Winterville, Ann Wideman and Jean Harper. Susan Amason of Flowery Branch spent several days last week with her brother, Billy Amason. Sudie Kennedy and Ann Williamson went over to Elberton Monday and visited Belle Harrison They enjoyed eating breakfast at Bojangles. Amber Armour is spending the week in Augusta with her mother, Julie Armour, while she is out of school for spring holidays. Betty Berry had a birthday Friday and celebrated with her family Sunday at the Red Minnow in Elberton. Celebrating with Betty were Sybil Vaughn, Donnie and Kris Berry, Jessica and Abbi, Tom and Sandra Parker, and Lee and Shelley Parker, Bradley, Tristan and Lila. Wilda Boatwright and Sudie Kennedy went over to Greensboro Saturday. Wilda spent the day with Frances Nash and other family members while Sudie visited her son, Bud Kennedy. Gail Stewart visited Johnny and Kathryn Shedd Sunday afternoon. Paul and Hannah Wright and Ava Melinda enjoyed eating supper with Tim and Gail Stewart and Alyssa Friday night. Shirley Chafin, Terri Diaz and Rocky Nation enjoyed a barbecue and fish fry at the home of Claude and Ann Nation in the Devil's Pond community of Oglethorpe County. Bonnie Boatwright enjoyed going over to the Sandy Cross Caf in Oglethorpe County where she met several of her classmates of the Class of 1956 for breakfast. Others there with Bonnie were Carole Morgan, Helen Smith, Ted and Jane Ridgeway, Ray Sanders, Morris Smith, and J.B. Harrison. Bonnie was glad to see Virgil and Emily Whittington there for breakfast with three of their grandchildren, Jessie, Julie and Jenny. Tom Hardy and Gene Winfrey visited George and Ann Wideman last week. William Hester spent the day Sunday with them. They visited Mrs. Laura Hester, Mrs. Dot Hardy, and Mrs. J.T. Thornton in Wilkes Health Care Center. Ann visited Mr. and Mrs. Buster Winfrey and also in the Echols home. James, David and Mathew Wideman visited during the weekend.
