Lucy Nell Hopkins Gill of Lavonia was honored on the occasion of her 80th birthday at a celebration in the Ballroom of The Fitzpatrick Hotel Sunday afternoon, March 26.

The festivities were hosted by her children and grandchildren, Jerry and Jane Ford, Jonathan and Elizabeth, of Tampa, Fla., Tommy and Pam Gill of Carnesville, Edward and Kim Gill, Ryan, Cameron and Taylor, of Camden, S.C., David and Terry Gill, Jordan and Matthew, of Stockbridge, and Morris and Peggy Jordan, Gil, Andy, Chris and Lucy, of Monroe.

The ballroom was beautifully decorated with many arrangements of spring flowers.

An ornate handled silver trumpet vase centered the buffet and held colorful lilies, tulips, daisies, delphinium and solidago. A white cloth covered this table and tables where guests were seated.

From the buffet guests enjoyed party sandwiches, cheese straws, Swedish meatballs, fruits, punch and coffee.

Another table nearby, also covered in white, was centered with the birthday cake made in a rectangle design with an angled top layer. Fresh flowers matching those on the buffet topped the cake and accented corners and the base. After guests were led by oldest grandchild, Jordan Gill, in the singing of "Happy Birthday", the cake was served.

During the afternoon guests were asked to sign a scrapbook the children were compiling for their mother. Pictures and special wellwishes were added to the pages.

Also enjoyed during the afternoon were old family pictures scattered about the tables.

Nephew Bob Hopkins of Woodstock gathered all the family and guests for a group picture and other pictures were taken to be enjoyed for years to come.

More than 75 family members, cousins, nieces, nephews and other extended family and close friends attended during the afternoon. Special guests included Mrs. Gill's two brothers, Hudson Hopkins and wife, Bobbie, of Thomson and Vernon Hopkins of Washington; also sisterin law, Norma Hopkins, also of Washington.
