Easter Sunrise services planned for Easter Sunday on The Square

2006-04-06 / Worship

The Community Easter Sunrise Service sponsored by the Wilkes Ministers United (WMU) will be held on Easter Sunday, April 16, at 7 a.m.

The service will be on the north, or courthouse, end of The Square in Downtown Washington. The Square will be closed to traffic for the service. Parking is available behind the courthouse and in city and church parking lots only a block from The Square.

Worshipers are encouraged to bring their own folding chairs or a blanket for sitting on the lawn. In the event of rain, the service will be at the First United Methodist Church at the corner of Spring and Liberty streets.

The service will be led by Rev. Tom Stillwell, president of WMU and pastor of Pathway Church. Replacing the traditional sermon will be a singular dramatic production, "The Ragman," with a cast of young people from community churches.

"The Ragman" is the work of William Wangerin Jr. Music for the event is under the direction of Evangelist Amethyst Wynn. A free breakfast will be available after the service at the First United Methodist Church.
