Newcomers vie for Dist. 3 seat

Three political newcomers, Jessie Williamson, Danny Cosby, and John E. Howard have qualified to run for the District 3 Wilkes County Commission seat long held by Rayle's Marshall Sherrer, who has chosen not to run for another term, Supervisor of Elections Judge Jim Burton said.

The News-Reporter will run brief biographical information on the candidates in an upcoming issue as a matter of announcement. After that, their advertisements will tell voters why they feel they can lead their district. Candidates for two other county offices qualified last week for the upcoming primary. Incumbent Chairman Sam Moore has qualified to run in the Democratic Primary for Chairman of the Board of Commissioners, as has incumbent District 4 Commissioner Jerry Stover.

No Republicans have qualified to run, so the winners of the Democratic primary will be the defacto winners of the November elections.

Qualification for Board of Education seats from District 1 and District 2 will be in June, Burton said.
