Community is like extended family TO THE EDITOR: Since my arrival in WashingtonWilkes in 1970, this community has been like an extended family. It opened its heart and its arms to me. No one could ask for a more warm, friendlier, generous place to raise children and to work. It has been my good fortune to work with the Little Theater, Historical Foundation, Kiwanis Club, Woman's Club, church softball league, First Baptist Church, and numerous school activities. With each there were many projects and adventures that are the building blocks of my life. Having worked in a library since the fifth grade, I feel like an expert. So, I knew when I walked into the Mary Willis Library with its huge, wooden doors with fancy hinges that this is what a library should be. My feelings haven't changed in 36 years. I love this library, the staff, the computer users and the readers, and the board members. I especially appreciate the Friends of the Library who tirelessly support and promote the library with ever present good cheer. The retirement reception given by the Friends, boards and staff was a splendid affair, a treat for all the senses. Many memorable people attended, a reminder of years of good times here. I will never forget, and will cherish every memory of the kindnesses shown me. CELESTE STOVER |
