I think we are having our blackberry winter. We had to fire up the old wood heater again. The rain has missed us again this time. J.W. and Johnny's gardens are looking good. J.W. brought me some radishes from Johnny's garden. Beaverdam Baptist Church had a good service Sunday morning. Beautiful white daisies were on the altar table. Sweet Williams were on the organ and yellow and a purple iris were in a vase on the piano. Rev. Jim Edwards brought a rewarding message after a good Sunday School lesson by Leeman Stewart. Leeman led in the congregational singing with William Morrison at the piano. I am sorry to hear that Rev. John Mark Carpenter wasn't feeling well Sunday morning, but he did bring the message to the congregation at Sardis Baptist Church. Joyce Fry led in the congregational singing while Betty Carpenter was at the piano. The Lord's Supper was served by the deacons in a beautiful and different kind of ceremony. John Mark and Betty had dinner with Annie Blanche Vaughn and Tuck and Brenda Vaughn. The Carpenters dropped by to see T.J. and Karen Bowen, Roy, Trey, and Sara in the afternoon. David Williamson, a senior at WWCHS, has been accepted at Georgia State University in Atlanta after graduation. His parents are David and Dawn Williamson and his grandparents are George and Patsy King of Washington and Ann Williamson. Barry and Dana Echols visited Fred and Ann Corbett Sunday afternoon. Other visitors over the past week have been J.W. and Bonnie Boatwright, Charles and Nina Boatwright, Thelma Favor, Penny Callaway, Ruth Flynt, Douglas Mathews, Tom Hardy, Catherine Callaway, Mildred Sisson, Danny Corbett, Richard and Betty Byrd, and Shirley Bufford. Ruby Arnold visited her sister, Sallie Mae Arnold, and took her some good old timey chicken soup to make her feel better. She reports that Sallie Mae is feeling much better. Ruby's daughter, Mary Grace Owens, in Rossman, N.C., is feeling much better also. Ruby visited Lamar and Kay Berry and Trey and Brooke Berry, Kaitlyn and Bryson, in their new home on Glenn Road Sunday afternoon. Faye Thornton of Washington visited Kay Berry in their new home Saturday afternoon. Bonnie Boatwright visited the Berrys Sunday afternoon. Friday, Boyce and Pam Hall and Avery, Keaton Wilson, and Martha Hall went to Athens to a softball game in which Lindley Hall played. Saturday, Lindley played in a tournament in Jefferson. Boyce, Pam and Avery, and Keaton went to see her play in the tournament. Peggy Echols and Shirley Chafin went to Athens Monday to get craft materials for the Lunch and Learn Club. They enjoyed eating at the Varsity. Shirley Chafin visited Ralph and Elizabeth Smith Wednesday afternoon and took them a nice plate of food from Lunch and Learn. Bonnie Boatwright visited Fred and Ann Corbett Wednesday afternoon and took them a nice plate of food from Lunch and Learn. Sudie Kennedy and Ann Williamson visited Annie Blanche Vaughn Wednesday afternoon and carried her a nice plate of food from Lunch and Learn. Jean Harper visited Ralph and Elizabeth Smith several times during the week. Bobby and Sandra Arnold came by Tuesday for a visit on their way home from the commissioners convention in Savannah and also visited again on Saturday. Charlie Arnold came Friday to cut grass and to do some work around the house. Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Wheatley and Mrs. Carl Sisson were among other relatives from WashingtonWilkes attending visitation last Thursday afternoon and evening in Toccoa for Charles Davis, husband of Vickie Sisson Davis and father of C.J. Davis. The Davises formerly lived in the Beaverdam community of Rayle. Doris Walker went over to Anderson, S.C., to spend Saturday with the twin sisters, Louise Smith and Lucile Edmonds. They went to a restaurant called "The Meeting Place" to have lunch. Marshall and Mablean Sherrer, Brent and Deana Sherrer, and Kevin and Jennifer Shelton spent Sunday through Tuesday at a commissioners convention in Savannah. Marshall was presented a beautiful plaque with a standing ovation at an awards luncheon honoring him for 40 years of service. Other commissioners going were Donna Hardy, Jerry Stover, Sam Moore and his wife Dawn, and Divinsky Lee. Marshall and Mablean are always glad to see their cousin, Oliver Smith, and his wife Jackie there. T.J. Bowen was honored on April 22 for his birthday which was the 25th. Joining him, Karen, Roy, Trey, and Sara, for a dinner at their home were Tommy and Nancy Bowen, Ty and Sue Land, Kaitlyn, Amanda and T.J., Allen Bowen, and a friend, Amanda. Ruby Arnold, Dorothy Callaway, and Aaliya Berry went to Athens and ate at McDonald's while they were there. Aaliya misses McDonalds in Washington so much that they took her to Athens to get her favorite cheeseburger. Wilda Boatwright and Sudie Kennedy went to Athens Monday to see Wilda's sister, Annette Hughes, who was in the hospital. She is now at her home in Watkinsville and doing some better. Gail Stewart had surgery for a ruptured vertebrae and bone spurs in her upper back in the neck area at St. Mary's Hospital in Athens last Tuesday. She came home Wednesday of last week and has been get
ting plenty of tender loving care from her family and other relatives who have visited. She appreciates the prayers, phone calls, and cards. Penny Vaughn spent one day during the week with Annie Blanche Vaughn, Tuck and Brenda Vaughn of Martinez spent the weekend with her. George and Ann Wideman's visitors have been Tom Hardy, Buster Winfrey, and Leeman and Mary Stewart. Watson Wideman visited Saturday and Sunday. James, David and Mathew also visited during the weekend. Ann went over and visited Mr. and Mrs. Buster Winfrey and grandson one day. Ann also visited Patsy and Kay Seymour in Tignall, and Brenda Irvin in Washington. Penny Vaughn spent one day with Mrs. Annie Blanche Vaughn. Tuck and Brenda Vaughn of Martinez spent the weekend with her. David and Margie Randall, and James Randall went to a nice wedding at Camp Hawkins in Mt. Airy. Jason McCarty and Kim Loinkous were married in a beautiful ceremony in a beautiful setting in the mountains. Jason is the counselor at Camp Hawkins where James goes to summer camp every year. Gift cards were given to the young couple and were displayed on a table. James was so excited when he got the invitation to his counselor's wedding. Buck and Linda Echols had as their dinner guests Sunday, Greg and Angela Armour, Samantha, Cody and Hunter, Sissy Smith, J.T. and Abby, and Richard and Lou Heard and Mattie. Bonnie Boatwright went to Bogart Thursday to spend the day with her sister, Martha Jones. They went to Fire Mountain and met their other sister, Frankie Jones, for lunch. Then they went back to Martha's house for reminiscing.
Bonnie Boatwright went to Wendy's and joined other friends for bingo Tuesday afternoon. Marian Poss and Sudie Kennedy from our neighborhood also went. J.W. and Kathleen Canup, and Margaret Peterman of Lexington also came. If I have made a mistake in your
news or if I have left your news out, I apologize. In reading back in my news sometimes I do see mistakes I have made and sometimes it is just a misprint at the office, but I am only human and make plenty of mistakes. I try to do it right and sometimes I just can't read my own writing after writing it so fast while on the phone with you. Sometimes I will jot things down out to the side and just forget to go back and put them in . Please keep calling with your news because we want to keep Rayle on the map and I want all the news I can get. You would be surprised to know how many people have told me they read my news. I have gotten letters from out of town and also phone calls from out of town with compliments. They love keeping in touch.
