Humpty Dumpty's fall ends in cracked pelvis for Tyrone reporter
"Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall; Humpty Dumpty had a great fall." Well, Priscilla Maxwell had a great fall Monday morning of last week before I wrote my column.
After carrying grandson Tyler to school in Washington, I stopped to get a breakfast biscuit for Morrison and me. When I got close to home I decided to go to Phillips Mill Cemetery to confirm some information I needed.
When I got there, I saw several flowers I wanted to change and I noticed several bushes that needed trimming on the graves of some of my relatives. I had some good cutters with me and could save a later trip, so I cut them. As I gathered the limbs to carry off, I stepped over the rock coping and lost my balance and went tumbling down a hillside. I knocked my glasses off but did not break them.
I lay there a moment and then started moving my legs to see if I could get up, laughing all the time. I managed to climb back up the bank and to the car where my cell phone was and called Morrison. He arrived shortly, found my glasses, and got me buckled in and followed me to Mary Jane's house where I usually write the Tyrone news. He helped me in the house and seated me. We ate our biscuits and I wrote down what I had started. He carried my news in and waited until school was out to pick up Tyler.
During that time I made a few phone calls which included both of the children. Mary Jane asked me to please call Dr. McAvoy in Elberton, our family doctor, by the time she got off from work and home, by the time Morrison and Tyler got home. "Why Elberton?" Because the Elberton hospital and surgeon are on our insurance plan.
I have been in the hospital since Monday. My pelvis is cracked in two places, and I am being treated.
