The Washington-Wilkes Tigers closed out the regular baseball season with a pair of convincing wins during the past week but they weren't convincing enough to break the team out of a three-way tie for second place in Region 7-A and a disappointing fourth-place berth in the first round of the state playoffs.

Previous losses to GMC, Aquinas, and Lincoln County plunged the Tigers into the predicament and the results mean that W-W will probably have to face either Prince Avenue or Social Circle on the road next Friday, May 12. As of press time, Prince Avenue and Social Circle were scheduled to play for the Region 8A championship on Friday of this week.

The Tigers' second place tie is with Lincoln and GMC based on their season record but the current tiebreaker system pushed them back into the fourth-place berth. On Tuesday of this week, W-W

traveled to Hancock Central for the last regular season game. They brought home the win by a score of 13-1 but details were not available for this reporting.

On Friday, April 28, the Tigers beat Glascock County by a comfortable margin at 8-3. Senior Kevin Stasyshyn started on the mound and pitched three innings. Junior Demont Gresham came on in relief in the top of the fourth and chalked the win.

Stasyshyn allowed only two hits but walked seven batters before turning it over to Gresham, who shut out Glascock in the remaining innings while striking out six and walking two.

Leading hitters for the Tigers against Glascock were Caleb Saggus, who was 2-for-3 with an impressive five stolen bases; Thorne Brown, 2-for-3; Mark Tench, 1-for3 with three rbi; and Gresham, who was 1-for-1 with three walks.
