Youth golf tournament set Sat. at Country Club The Optimist Club of Washington will sponsor its annual junior golf tournament Saturday, May 6, at the Washington-Wilkes Country Club. Boys and girls ages 10-18 are eligible to compete, beginning at 8:30 a.m. The top boy and girl finishers in each age group will be eligible to compete in the Georgia District Tournament on June 19 at the Nicklaus Golf Club at Birch River in Dahlonega. They will be competing for the right to advance to the Optimist International Junior Golf Championships in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. In this tournament, the junior golfers will compete against junior golfers from around the world at the famous PGA National Resort and Spa. Interested golfers may sign up at The Company Store in Downtown Washington or at Georgia Respiratory HomeCare located next to Washington Ford Mercury on East Robert Toombs Avenue.. There will be a $10 entry fee. More information can be obtained by calling David Chafin at 678-2244 between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. The American Junior Golf Association recognizes the Optimist International Junior Golf Championships. Annually more than 4,500 junior golfers compete in Optimist sponsored qualifying golf events. The championships are played on four courses at the prestigious PGA National Resort and Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, home of the PGA of America. Optimist International is one of the world's largest and most active service club organizations with more than 118,000 volunteer members in 3,600 Optimist Clubs in the United States, Canada, and other nations. Optimist Clubs conduct positive service programs that reach six million young people each year. |
