W-WMS Corner
As this school year comes to an end, we would like to take time to thank the teachers by celebrating Teacher Appreciation Week. Most students agree that the teachers have been very helpful and want what is best for all students. Much has been accomplished this year with the help of the teachers at Washington-Wilkes Middle School. The sixth grade teachers gave us a good foundation to begin our middle school career. The seventh grade teachers kept us on track and supported us through the year. The eighth grade teachers completed our middle school education and helped us to prepare for the years ahead in high school. Mr. Pendrey stated, "Teachers make every other profession possible." So again, we would like to say "thank-you" to the teachers who have helped prepare us for our future.
Other middle school news includes Honors Day activities, AR field trip, and an AR cookout. Honors Day for the sixth grade will be held on Monday, May 15. On Tuesday, May 16, the seventh grade will have Honors Day and the eighth grade will have theirs on Wednesday, May 17. On these days, teachers will recognize students who have achieved honors throughout the year. The ceremonies will begin around 8:30 a.m. and parents are invited to attend.
The top 100 readers will be taken on a field trip to Funsville on May 18. The students and teachers that attended the trip to Funsville last year enjoyed the day so much that they requested that this be the reward trip again this year. The short trip to Augusta is cheaper than most destinations because of rising gasoline prices. Students get more time to enjoy the safe environment of the park as they spend less time on the bus. Lunch is served there as part of the admission price. Because there were so many advantages to this destination, it was an easy decision to go there again this year.
Finally, students who have earned at least 25 AR points will be invited to attend the AR cookout and celebration. This celebration will be held on Friday, May 19, at the middle school.
