Principal tells of school concerns
Andrew Jackson, principal of Washington-Wilkes Comprehensive High School, spoke to the members of the Kiwanis Club of Washington at their regular meeting on Tuesday, May 9. He gave a very informative and interesting update of W-WCHS activities and especially noted President George W. Bush's "No Child Left Behind" program. He explained the program, the federal and state mandates, and their implications to the local school system. Of note was the fact that the high school received the Governor's Cup Award for achieving the largest gain in Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) scores in the region in the past three years. Jackson also went on to explain the graduation rate, Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) impacts, Student Council composition, Special Education requirements, and the impact of technology on today's student needs. Randy Hardy (left) was program host for the day.
