I want to wish all mothers a happy Mother's Day Sunday, May 14, because all of you are special. We were glad to get a nice rain for our gardens and yards over the weekend. J.W. brought in a nice head of lettuce, radishes and onions from Johnny's garden last week. We are going to have squash this week. A pork and chicken barbecue to benefit the restoration of the Presbyterian Church in Philomath will be held May 20 at 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the home of Johnny and Sue Ellen Buckman in Philomath. My brother James' wife, Sharon Smith of Stephens, started radiation treatments in Athens Monday, May 8, after finishing a series of chemotherapy treatments for breast cancer. When she had surgery for this several months ago, the doctor said they removed all the cancer and the treatments are just to be on the safe side. Please remember her in your thoughts and prayers.
