Lundberg News
We had good services at Spring revival at Clifford's Grove Baptist Church. Attendance was down a bit and those who didn't come missed hearing very good messages by Rev. Donnie Walton. We appreciate him coming all the way from Oak Grove, Mo., just to preach at our revival. Everyone was happy to see Evans and Sue Davis at church Sunday. He has not been able to attend very often in several months. His brother Gerald Davis of Lincolnton visited them Friday afternoon. Karmen Moon was honored at a lovely baby shower Saturday morning at Clifford's Grove Baptist Church, hosted by the ladies of the church. She received many beautiful and useful gifts. Mrs. Louise Phelps was guest of honor at a surprise party to celebrate her 90th birthday Sunday afternoon at Clifford's Grove Baptist Church, given by her family and attended by many friends and relatives. She was the former Louise Hopkins and grew up in Lundberg and attended Clifford's Grove and was pianist for many years. James Sherrer visited Mrs. Priscilla Maxwell at the Elbert County Hospital Wednesday afternoon. We hope she will soon recover from her fall and can come home. Amanda Woods left last Sunday with several other Wilkes County teachers to fly to Chicago to attend the International Reading Association Conference. Each morning they attended sessions, then later they were able to do a lot of interesting things. They enjoyed seeing the Cubs baseball game at Rigley Field. They saw the play, "Wicked," at Oriental Theater, the Art Institute of Chicago, and Field Museum. They enjoyed shopping at Magnificent Mile and going to Navy Pier and eating Gino's famous deep dish pizza. This was Amanda's first airplane trip and she had a wonderful time. They arrived back home on Thursday. Mrs. Ricky McCarty spent the weekend with her sister, Gail Hammock, in Warwick. Mrs. Rick McClure of Tallahassee, Fla., came Thursday to spend several days with her mother, Mrs. Iris Dyson. Also spending the weekend were Iris' niece, Carmen Cooper, her husband, Jerry Crowley, and grandson, Tony Barrett, of Arlington, Texas; Charles Hopkins and grandson, Harrison Turner, of Elberton; Mrs. Evelyn George, Eve and Lawrence Gallo, visited Friday night, and Mrs. Sara Dees visited Sunday morning. Amanda Woods walked with the Washington-Wilkes Primary School team in the Relay for Life.
Mrs. Juanita Bradford, Mr. and Mrs. John Sutherland and Brad joined Mr. and Mrs. Terry Bradford and their guests, Mr. and Mrs. Morris Bradford, Zane and Mattie of Greenville, Ala., for lunch on Sunday. Young Zane is spending the week with his grandparents in Washington. Anyone who would like to hear Rev. Donnie Walton preach again, he will be at Raytown Baptist Church for a weekend revival beginning Thursday night, May 18, through Sunday. I'm not sure of the starting time. As I finish up my news Monday morning, Governor Sonny Perdue is just up the road from my house, cutting the ribbon to the Wilkes County Pre-release Center. So we will have a lot of men neighbors (inmates) soon. How would you like to live in my neighborhood?
