Judy Bland was guest speaker at the meeting of the Frances Wheelis Women on Mission of the First Baptist Church at the home of Susan Pope on Spring Street Monday evening, May 8.

Mrs. Bland, introduced by Gail Hunter, program chairman, spoke on a recent mission trip with nine others from the Georgia Baptist Association to Matamoras, Mexico. Her group was a part of the "Operation Go" program. They partnered with International Mission Board missionaries in the area and were involved in a gospel-planting program where they distributed the Gospel of John and Plan of Salvation to residents. Sixty teams are scheduled to participate in this program in 2006.

Prior to her program Nancy Madden, president, presided. Members read the WMU Watchword and Cheryl Edwards led in prayer.

A business meeting followed and mission action projects were discussed. Members also brought bottles of bubbles for Julia Palmer to take with her group on a mission trip this summer to Honduras to be distributed to the Honduran children.

Teresa Bishop led the missionary prayer calendar and after names of missionaries were read and those with special needs in the community named, she closed in prayer.

Mrs. Pope served refreshments during a time of fellowship.

Present were Sue Lance, Melanie Wells, Louise McClearen, Cheryl Edwards, Nancy Madden, Teresa Bishop, Elizabeth Pope, Lynne Land, Rosemary Hopkins, Gail Hunter, Susan Pope, visitor Kay Nelms, and Mrs. Bland.
