The Mary Willis Library has prepared a magical summer of reading programs for children from Saturday, May 20, through Saturday, July 15.

Children preschool age and older may register to read in the "Once Upon a Time . . ." program beginning May 20 at 10 a.m. and continuing until 4 p.m.

A special puppet treat will be provided by Atlanta Puppet with Peter and Mary Hart at 10:30 a.m. in the Pope Meeting Room of the library. The show will be reminiscent of long ago performances to entertain kings and queens including a daredevil cat-cousin of Puss 'n Boots.

There will be a marionette quartet of dancing unicorns and other performing characters. This program is made possible by a gift from the Pilot Club of Washington.

Children are encouraged to read at least 10 books during this vacation time for which certificates will be awarded on July 22.

Other special programs and workshops will be held throughout the summer.

In addition to special events, storytime programs will be held weekly at the library and at local child care centers.

For a schedule of events, interested persons should visit the library on the corner of Jefferson and Liberty streets.
