Myers to present Tea and Learn program May 19
Anne Myers, RN, MSN, will present the program at the Tea and Learn on Friday, May 19, at 2:30 p.m. in the Wills Memorial Hospital Library.
Strokes will be the topic of Mrs. Myers' presentation.
Wills Memorial is equipped with a CT scanner and a system in place called REACH. This is a telemedicine hook-up with a radiologist at the Medical College of Georgia who reads the CT scan via computer and decides whether the stroke is thrombic (caused by clots) or hemorhagic (uncontrolled high blood pressure). The thrombic variety is then treated promptly with a "clot busting" medication in the ER, but only if the patient appears within three hours of the occurrence of symtoms.
Wills Memorial Hospital has occupational and physical therapists and a speech therapist to help fight the results of a stroke.
