June is Beef Month in Wilkes, Cattlemen's cook-off planned

Sam Moore, Chairman of the Wilkes County Board of Commissioners, has signed a proclamation proclaiming June 2006 as Beef Month in Wilkes County.

All citizens are urged to participate in this observance through support of the local beef industry.

As part of this observance, the Wilkes County Cattlemen's Association has several activities planned. In cooperation with the radio station, there will be a trivia contest on the radio during the second week of June. Listeners correctly answering questions will win beef certificates.

Another activity planned is an Iron Chief, Cattlemen's Style Cookoff in conjunction with

Watchmaker's restaurant in the Fitzpatrick Hotel on The Square. Rich and Misty Friedman will sponsor an Iron Chief Cook-off Friday night, June 30. Teams of three will grill their favorite recipe and then be judged with prizes awarded to participants.

That same night, Watchmaker's will have a dinner buffet that will be available at 6 p.m. with beef as the main entre. During June, any member of the Wilkes County Cattlemen who orders a beef entre at Watchmaker's and presents his
