Army nurse sends gift to school
John Gowen (left), a seventh grade student from Washington-Wilkes Middle School, recently presented a gift to W-WMS from his mother, Angela Gowen, who is currently serving in the Army National Guard as a combat medic in the Army. She was deployed in December 2004 and left for Iraq in May of 2005. She spent 61/2 months in Baghdad and is currently working at Tallil Air Base in the desert of southern Iraq. As a nurse, she has assisted with the medical treatment of American, British, and Australian soldiers, as well as Iraqi forces that have been trained to keep the peace in Iraq. John's mom sent the beautiful wall hanging, which was made in Iraq, as a thank you gift to all the students and faculty at WWMS for all their love and support. Accepting the gift on behalf of the school is W-WMS Principal Bill Pendrey (right).
