The new shelter expansion gives many animals a place to get out of the weather. The new shelter expansion gives many animals a place to get out of the weather. The staff and volunteers at the Washington-Wilkes Animal Shelter, 358 Brown Drive, invite everyone to visit the Animal Shelter and see the new and improved facilities.

"It's a happy place for the animals," says volunteer Alice Green, "and you must meet the sweet cats and dogs for adoption."

Mrs. Green says that all the new improvements that have been donated have done wonders. She also says that there is a need for donations for the spay and neuter fund.

Before the animals can be taken by rescue groups or individuals for their approved homes, they must be spayed or neutered and vaccinated. Any funds would be put to use immediately.

The stray and abandoned animals at the shelter need a chance for a long and healthy life, and need all the help they can get. Volunteers are needed for the Shelter and sponsors for pets are needed.

"We need to spread the word that the answer to pet over-population is spaying and neutering, compassion over killing," Green said.
