The weather and the election of a commissioner for District 1 is the topic of discussion these days. It is hot and dry. I am not much on politics, but I do my duty by voting. As I write this on Memorial Day there are many American flags flying, celebrations, programs, gatherings, cookouts, etc., going on honoring the memory of our fallen veterans. Beaverdam Baptist Church will be having revival services Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evenings, June 5, 6, and 7, with Rev. Donnie Berry bringing the messages. There will be special singing and Rev. Jim Edwards, pastor of the church, and the church members cordially invite you to come and worship and sing praises to the Lord. The prayer list is for Ann Corbett, Sharon Smith, Joe Jones, Aubrey Jackson, Gary Rogers, Kathryn Padgett, Stephanie Chapman, Bobby Parton, Ellie Frey, Jason Thrasher, Jonathon Grier, Roberta Roper, Doris Walker, Sherry Newsome, Sybil Vaughn, Mike Webb, Dorothy Callaway, Charlotte Fain, Sallie Mae Arnold, the sick and bereaved, the service men and women, and all the veterans. Barry and Dana Echols spent Sunday afternoon with Fred and Ann Corbett. Other visitors during the week were J.W. and Bonnie Boatwright, Nina Boatwright, Janice Jones and daughter Jeana, Joan Echols, Jason Echols, Ruth Flynt, Penny Callaway, Sherry Holt and Tom Hardy. Annie Blanche Vaughn spent the weekend in Marietta with Malvin
and Kay Vaughn. While there she attended a lovely baby shower for Eva Schug on Saturday afternoon. Scott and Sissy Smith, J.T. and Abby, Greg and Angela Armour, Cody and Hunter, and Richard and Lou Heard and Mattie were Sunday dinner guests of Buck and Linda Echols. Doris Walker is recuperating nicely at home after spending a couple of days in Wills Memorial Hospital. Floyd and Louise Smith of Anderson, S.C., and Cheryl and Alex Walker visited Sunday afternoon. Betty Berry visits her sister, Sybil Vaughn, every day as she continues to improve. Shirley Mathews visited Tuesday. Ruby Arnold, Dorothy Callaway, Kitty Williford, Nell Hubbard, Jackie Hubbard, and Kayla Davis attended the funeral of T. Thomas Hubbard at Center Methodist Church in Stephens Sunday afternoon. Visiting Ralph and Elizabeth Smith were Charles and Sara Sweet of Martinez; Howard and Janet Smith of Lexington; Ann Williamson, Bobby and Sandra Arnold of Winterville; Charlie and Linda Arnold of Athens; and Ann Wideman. Rev. and Mrs. John Mark Carpenter and Karen Bowen and Sara enjoyed eating at Biguns Caf Sunday for lunch. Dinner guests of Tim and Gail Stewart and Alyssa Sunday were Paul and Hannah Wright and Ava, and Jeffrey Roth. Dr. James McElhannon of Palm Springs, California, visited his cousins, Margie Rogers and Inez Moore in Washington, while he was here visiting his sister, Ruby Arnold. Other visitors not mentioned last week were Ronnie and Charlotte Fain and Glenn, Ruby Nell Booth, Kristy and Crystal Booth, Chuck Berry and Lamar Berry. James has returned to his home in California. Clyde and Sandy Whittington attended a graduation party in honor of Josh Whittington at Lake Russell, given by his parents, Ken and Marla Whittington. Bonnie Boatwright attended her regular bingo game at Wendy's in Washington Tuesday afternoon. Marian Poss and Fran Thaxton of our neck of the woods also were there as were J.W. and Kathleen Canup and Margaret Peterman of Lexington, along with a big crowd of other bingo friends. Zachery and Kyle Frankel of Crawford spent Sunday night with their grandparents, Clyde and Sandy Whittington. Visitors of George and Ann Wideman during the week were Tom Hardy, James, David and Mathew Wideman. Ann visited in the Echols Personal Care Home, Buster and Sandy Winfrey, Leeman and Mary Stewart, and Ralph and Elizabeth Smith. Debra W. Armour took Frances Fendley to visit Mrs. Melvie Esco at Quiet Oaks Nursing Home in Crawford one day. Margie Randall enjoyed the festivities at McDonald's Sunday and enjoyed hearing Freddy Brown play some gospel songs and fun songs like "Old McDonald," on his keyboard. David and Margie Randall visited Mrs. Gussie McAvoy one day during the week. Bonnie Boatwright went over to Bogart Thursday and spent the day with her sister, Martha Jones. They went to the mall in Athens and were met by their brother, James Smith of Stephens, and his wife Sharon for a most wonderful lunch at the Piccadilly Restaurant. Then all went back to Martha's house for reminiscing. Sharon continues to have radiation five days a week and is doing well, and their sister, Frankie Jones, who could not be with them was greatly missed. Her husband Joe has been moved to a nursing home in Commerce. Bonnie Boatwright made her usual Sunday afternoon visit to Ruth Flynt. Peggy Echols visited her sister, Sybil Hayes, in Stephens Sunday afternoon. Jack and Rubye Armour, Martha Hall, Denise Armour, Ethan and Jackson, Greg and Angela Armour, Samantha, Cody and Hunter, Justin Armour and Audra Chapman, Barry and Beth Armour, Bettina and Dylan, Brock Young, Julia Thornton, James Prince, Jeff, Erin and Jill Thornton and other family members attended the graduation of Brittany Armour at Athens Christian School Saturday evening. Barry and Beth Armour honored their daughter, Brittany, with a graduation party at their home in Lexington Saturday night. A large crowd of family and friends attended to help Brittany celebrate. Congratulations to all our graduates. May all your dreams come true. Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Valdez and children, Jacob, Peyton, and Joshua, of Roswell visited Tuesday and Wednesday night with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Bolton, helping get their house and yard ready to put on the market.
