The Georgia Department of Labor has reported that the unemployment rate in the Central Savannah River Area (CSRA) declined to 5.1 percent in April, down one-half of one percent from 5.6 percent in March. The area's jobless rate stood at 6.0 percent in April 2005.

Meanwhile, Georgia's unemployment rate declined to 4.3 percent in April, down two-tenths of one percent from 4.5 percent in March. The state's jobless rate stood at 5.0 percent in April 2005.

The number of people employed in Georgia increased by 20,291 from March to April. Some workers held more than one job, however, because Georgia added 30,400 nonfarm jobs, which includes multiple job holders. Most of the jobs gained were in trade and services. There was a slight increase in construction jobs, while manufacturing industries lost jobs.
