Olivia Butler Cole baptized at Church of the Mediator
Edward and Ruth Cole and their daughter Olivia Olivia Butler Cole was baptized at the Washington Church of the Mediator on May 21, the Sixth Sunday of Easter. The service began at 11:15 a.m. with Holy Baptism and Holy Communion.
Olivia is the daughter of Ruth and Edward Cole of Tallahassee, Fla., and was born October 19, 2005. Edward is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Carlton Cole from Miami, Fla., who attended the service. Ruth is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hines of Pawley's Island, S.C., who also attended, and of the late Mac W. Edwards Jr. of WashingtonWilkes. Mrs. Nita Edwards Riley of Tignall is Olivia's great-grandmother and also attended. Greatgrandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Bates Fole from Sun City, Fla. A special guest was Ruth's sister, Elizabeth Edwards from Henderson Village, Hendersonville, N.C.; and Mrs. Alfred Beckum from Rome, a longtime neighbor and friend.
In the absence of the rector, John Via, Rev. Herschel Atkinson presided and Rev. William O. Boyd, former rector of this parish church, performed the baptism by request as he had baptized Olivia's mother Ruth in this church when she was a baby.
The altar flowers were given to the glory of God and in honor of the birth of Olivia; and in memory of Mac Williams Edwards Jr., Osborne and Ruby Neal Kearney, and Annie Ruth Rhodes by Nita Edwards Riley.
Among the members and friends attending were family members, aunt and uncle, Laverne and John Harvey Edwards II, and their children, Shannon and Todd Hall, and children, Matthew and Luke Hall, of Covington, and John Harvey Edwards III of Monroe, NC.; greataunt Phyllis Drake and great-aunt and great-uncle, Jack and Jean Rhodes.
Also attending were Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Dees of Hendersonville, N.C., and their daughter (Ruth Cole's best friend), Anna Kate Brown, and her son, William Murry Brown II, whose father is stationed in Iraq.
Family members enjoyed lunch at Watchmakers at the Fitzpatrick Hotel in Washington after the service.
