Help make Fourth of July fireworks possible with 'Celebrity Baggers' at Bi-Lo Saturday

If you don't mind a few unskilled workers bagging your groceries Saturday, you can help make Washington's famous July 4th fireworks possible.

In the ongoing effort to raise money for the holiday celebration on The Square, Better Hometown Productions and Bi-Lo grocery manager Steve Crandall will again host a fund-raising Celebrity Bagging event this Saturday.

"Our local 'celebrities' will be bagging your groceries at Bi-Lo from 8 a.m until 2 p.m. with new celebrities coming on duty each

hour," said Donna Hardy. Hamburgers and hotdogs will be served during lunch, and companies are donating items that will be raffled off during the day, she said.

But Hardy says she needs help. "We need more folks to serve as the 'celebrity' baggers. If you'd like to volunteer yourself, or volunteer somebody else, call me at 6782013."

Just like last year, companies, organizations, and civic groups will have teams of baggers competing to raise the most money for the fireworks, she said. "Teams will be

competing with each other to solicit the most donations for the fireworks and win a prize. We'll furnish a few crazy hats, but you can dress any way you want and you can solicit donations any way you want. It's up to the team."

Last year's Celebrity Bagging fund raising effort raised over $1,600, she said. "This wouldn't have been possible without the efforts of our community civic groups, city and county leaders, and our local Bi-Lo all pulling together. Let's make this year even better."
