Time's a Wastin'.

It's almost time for the first Dig History Camp at Hickory Hill to begin (June 12), so you need to get your registration in right away.

In Dig History!, campers learn about the field of archeology, with experiments and activities to engage their interest and give them handson practice with archeological methods and techniques. They will also learn surveying, map and compass skills, excavation, and flint knapping.

"This is a great opportunity for kids with an interest in archaeology, history, science, and being outdoors," said Michelle Zupan, curator at Hickory Hill.

The cost for the day camp is $50 per child and includes daily snacks, equipment, and activities. Campers are asked to bring a sack lunch and a water bottle. The camps run for five days, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Camp dates for 2006 are June 1216, July 10-14, and July 24-28.

Camps are held at Hickory Hill, 502 Hickory Hill Drive, in Thomson, Georgia. Call toll-free 877-5959777 or email hickorymuseum@bellsouth.net for information and registration.

Dig History! is sponsored by the Watson-Brown Foundation, Inc., committed to education and historic preservation.
