Attending the 45th year reunion of the Class of 1961 from the Tignall area were Nancy and David Hilley, Carolyn and Richard Gammon, and one of their former teachers, Edna Lamar. Phyllis and Chan Drake hosted the reunion at their home in Washington. Marjorie Sale Gibson spent the weekend with her mom, Lois Sale, and attended the reunion. This class has a reunion every five years and for the past three years, the ladies of the class have had a mini-reunion three times a year, getting together at one of their homes or at a restaurant. They have so much fun catching up and oohing and aahing over pictures of grandchildren. Katie Anderson of Statesboro spent Memorial Day with her grandmother, Kathryn Anderson. Katie is an upcoming senior at Georgia Southern University. Rev. Gene Hiers and his wife Reba are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary on Saturday, June 17. They said that you have been such a great part of their lives that they wanted to share this special occasion with you. The invitation is extended to their Tignall friends by their children and grandchildren to attend a reception on Saturday, June 17, from two until four o'clock at the Pineland State Bank, 927 N. Broad Street, Metter. Please omit gifts. If you are unable to attend the reception, but would like to send them a card, their address is Route 3, Box 184, Metter, Ga. 30439. Rev. Hiers was pastor of Tignall Baptist Church from 1963 to 1970. Celeste Adams visited her daughter and her family, Kim and Joe Coots, and boys, Connor and Chase, in Ranger for a few days. Then the family came home with Celeste and spent the weekend with Celeste and O'Neil. They celebrated Chase's 11th birthday while here. From the Adams home the whole family went to Powelton to participate in an archery tournament. Chase won the Youth 2006 Southeastern Championship Traditional Bow Hunters of Georgia. His dad, Joe, got third place, so his trophy was smaller than his son's. This was a two day tournament. Celeste also visited a friend, Meg Burt, at Norcross. She said they went to four movies. A movie theater is a comfortable place to be in extremely hot weather, that is, if there's a good movie showing. Susannah Carter told me that her second grade class had the word donate as one of their vocabulary words, so they collected $33 and donated it to the animal shelter. I'm sure all those second graders who were in Susannah's class know the meaning of donate. Edna Rhodes is having some breathing difficulties and has been admitted to Elbert County Hospital. Her sister-in-law, Doris Rhodes, has been released from Wills Memorial, but will return to the hospital in Augusta this week for another knee replacement surgery. Let's hope all goes well this time. Marc and Heather Hammond and their two children have moved into the home of Marc's grandparents (Ruth and Pop Burton) in Mallorysville. We will miss them on Church Street. Don't forget Vacation Bible School at Tignall Baptist Church starts on Monday, June 12, and continues through Friday, June 16, from 6:30 until 9:00 p.m. each night. The theme this year is "Arctic Edge." All children from the ages of three to sixth grade are welcome. Another lil' tidbit about the Class of 1961 Reunion: it seems there were discussions about the Ramblings of Tignall and how much it was being enjoyed, not just by Tignall folks. To add some more stories about "Miss Stella," George Smith shared this story. He remembers riding with his dad, Dr. Smith (veterinarian) and they were coming from Mallorysville and stopped in Tignall. Miss Stella yelled out the window, "Dr. Smith, you are needed at Harry Bradford's farm" So they continued on to Harry Bradford's before returning to Washington. Makes you question the need for phones when you had Miss Stella. Also, Bryson Rousey came all the way from Phoenix, Arizona, for the occasion.
