Piano students earn distinctions
Piano students from the studio of Ruth Harris ended the school year with a variety of outstanding accomplishments in annual musical events held every spring.
Four students took the state theory examination sponsored by the Georgia Music Teachers Association at the University of Georgia School of Music in Athens. All four students received the Certificates of "Outstanding Theorist."
Three students took the C-Level Exam which covered everything learned on Levels A, B, and C. Ian Coe scored a 98; Genevieve Coe earned a 92; and Christina Albertson received 90. All three achieved the highest-level certificates.
Joseph Baldwin took the D-Level Exam which included everything on the A, B, and C levels plus the D Level. His score was 99.
The 10th District Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA) held its annual piano festival in Washington at the First Baptist Church on April 29. Students were judged in piano duet and piano solo.
Duet Team ratings were: Genevieve Coe and Ian Coe, Superior+. Christina Albertson and Joseph Baldwin, Emily Beggs and Christina Albertson, Emily McNure and Brittany Guin, Andrea Hill and Morgan Sherrer, and Ciara Meadows and Morgan Sherrer received Superior. A rating of Superiorwent to Ryan Colvard and Troy Colvard Due to Will Price's broken arm, Will and Joseph Baldwin played for "Comments Only.".
The Prepared Performance ratings were as follows: Brittany Guin and Ciara Meadows, Superior+; Christina Albertson, Emily Beggs, Andrea Hill, Morgan Sherrer, Genevieve Coe, and Ryan Colvard, Superior; Troy Colvard, Superior-. Emily McNure received an Excellent+. Joseph Baldwin, Will Price, and Ian Coe performed for "Comments Only."
Sight Reading ratings were: Christina Albertson, Brittany Guin, and Troy Colvard, Superior; Emily Beggs, Morgan Sherrer, and Genevieve Coe, Superior-; and Emily McNure and Ryan Colvard, Excellent. Joseph, Will, and Ian sight read for "Comments Only."
Janet Dunn from Dacula, formerly of Washington, was the judge for the day.
Students presented a recital on May 13 at the First Baptist Church. Those performing were Joseph Baldwin, Will Price, Morgan Sherrer, Ciara Meadows, Andrea Hill, Brittany Guin, Emily McNure, Christina Albertson, Emily Beggs, Troy Colvard, Ryan Colvard, Genevieve Coe, Ian Coe, and Michal Wright.
Mrs. Teri Bridges served delicious refreshments during the intermission. At the end of the recital, graduating senior Joseph Baldwin presented Miss Harris a large bouquet of American Beauty Red Roses and gave a touching speech of appreciation for his enjoyment of study with his "piano mom."
