Sunny days predicted for Martin Invitational this weekend
     Expecting about 70-80 players to participate in the 79th annual Amos Martin Invitational golf tournament this weekend, the WashingtonWilkes Country Club had already signed up about 50 early in the week and is expecting a surge of local players to add their names at the last minute.

Three Little League All-Star teams set to begin tournament games
     All-Star teams representing the Washington-Wilkes Little League girls softball, monor league, and major league have begun practice and will compete in area, district, and state tournaments beginning as early as this weekend.

#22 car wins first race
     Tyler Johnson took to the track in the go-cart purple class at the I-20 Speedway in Batesburg, S.C., last Saturday, June 24, and came away with his first win. Tyler is the 8-year-old son of Ron and Tara Johnson. His car was sponsored by Johnson Paint and Body and Johnson Equipment in Lincolnton.

Registration for cheerleading will be held in July
     Registration for fall 2006 cheerleading for girls ages 4-12 will be held the entire month of July, and the final day to register is August 1. The program is sponsored by the Washington-Wilkes Parks and Recreation Department, 22 Lexington Avenue, Washington.
