Washington-Wilkes Elementary School Principal Wanda Jenkins (left) and Janet Pharr, eMath Coach, spoke to the Kiwanis Club at its regular meeting Tuesday, June 13, and told the members about progress made at the school during the 2005-2006 school year. Jenkins reported a significant improvement in the communications with the Primary School and also said that W-WEA has achieved Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) for three years in a row. Both were proud to report that the school was designated a Georgia Title 1 Distinguished School for the second year in a row and that for the first time the countywide Teacher-of-the-Year was selected from W-WES. In addition, Pharr reported that W-WES was the recipient of a technology grant from the U.S. Department of Education, known as eMath, in which the school has purchased technology equipment and software to assist students in learning math skills, and to provide for additional training for teachers. Ross Maynard (center) was program host for the day.
