Tignall News
Joan Baker is a proud grandma. Her granddaughter, 16-year-old Michelle Landry, has been the goalie for her soccer team, Atlanta Fire. Her team won every game in the tournament and achieved the state championship. Congratulations, Michelle. Bobby Wilson must be improving. We heard that he walked to the Citgo station in town one day last week. We extend our sympathy to the family of Buddy Wilson of Thomson. Buddy grew up in Tignall and attended school here. He was the son of the late John Henry Wilson and of Lucy Wilson Richards who now lives in Thomson. Buddy was buried at Mallorysville Baptist Church Cemetery Sunday, June 25. Mrs. Alliene Lunceford celebrated her 100th birthday last week at Harper's Personal Care. I understand they had a party for her. Speaking of birthday parties, Carolyn and Richard Gammon attended the third birthday party of their twin granddaughters, Kara and Kaci Gammon, on Saturday, June 24, at their home on Clark Gresham Road. Carolyn had carried them to the Pizza Hut on Thursday. She read somewhere that a three-year-old is like a blender running with the top off. Well, she had two blenders! Donald and Peggy Ware and Edna Lamar attended the 50th wedding anniversary reception of Rev. and Mrs. Gene (Reba) Hiers in Metter Saturday, June 17. Eudora Huyck has been to Charlotte, N.C., and attended two showers given for Lem LeRoy and Ellen Barnes whose wedding will be coming up real soon. Wendy Truitt, daughter of Johnny and Brenda Truitt, has moved to Cornelia where she is working for the Northeast Georgian Newspaper. We wish Wendy good luck with her new job. Visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Dave Derrick for a long weekend were their granddaughter, Sally Derrick of Ramsteine, Germany, and her friend, Ian Milsner from Collinsville, Ill. They visited the University of Georgia in Athens where Sally will be transferring from a college in Germany. Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Bonnerwith of Pennsylvania visited his uncle, Bill Savage, and other family members in the area over the weekend. They attended Tignall Baptist Church Sunday morning. Jeff is the son of Bill Savage's oldest sister, Kay, who lives in New York. Jeff says they lived in Tignall briefly and he remembers attending Bible School at Tignall Baptist Church in the 1970s. Pauline (Teems) Parker of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., has been visiting with her sister, Gertrude Long. She attended church with Gertrude and her family on Sunday at Tignall Baptist. There was good attendance at Bible School at Beulah Baptist Church last week. The average attendance was 99. On Wednesday, Jolly the Clown will be a ministry for youth at Beulah Baptist with Tabor joining them. This is a ministry that is used at the youth camp at Crawfordville. We are glad to hear that Carl Bailey is home from the hospital. Let's hope he will continue to improve. Helping Sara Frances Henderson with her move back home last week were members of her family, Mr. and Mrs. Chris Johnson of North Augusta, and Mr. and Mrs. Creight Henderson of Beech Island. Her daughter, Frances Johnson, and great-grandson Creighton Lawrence of Columbus, will be back to visit next weekend. Visiting Kay and Alex Tyler over the weekend were Mr. and Mrs. Greg Tyler, Jordan, Caleb, and Sydney of Hoschton; bringing with them Sarah Li from Hong Kong, and Margaret Say from Singapore. These ladies are managers of the offices in their countries of the USA Poultry and Egg Council. Greg is Vice President of Marketing of the USA Poultry and Egg Council. They had all attended their annual meeting in Savannah earlier in the week. Kay and Alex say these ladies
are very interesting. Margaret of Singapore says they have no drugs and no snakes. She says the reason they have no drug problem is that anyone found with drugs is hanged. We don't know why they have no snakes. They have very little crime there because of the harsh punishment. The youth of Tignall Baptist Church will be going on a fun trip to "Wild Adventures Theme Park" in Valdosta on Friday, June 30, and
will be returning on Saturday, July 1. Lightning struck Carolyn and Richard Gammon's satellite Friday night, and I'm sure other people had problems too. Anyway it is very quiet at their home now. A quote from Marcus Tillius Cicero says, "If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need." Carolyn told Richard that they have everything they need, but he didn't agree.
