Revolutionary War historian to speak to historical meeting

ANDRAE ANDRAE The Washington-Wilkes Historical Foundation will hold its next quarterly meeting Sunday, August 6, at the Robert Toombs State Historic Site.

To emphasize the Foundation's commitment to supporting the Kettle Creek Battlefield, the primary beneficiary of the 2006 Christmas Tour and Dinner, the guest speaker will be Dr. Walter R. Andrae of Augusta, an authority on the Revolutionary War battle and its tactics.

Dr. Andrae taught military history for five years at the Signal Corps Officers Courses, Basic and Advanced and it was through this experience that he met Dr. J. Turner Bryson in 1988 at the WashingtonWilkes Chamber of Commerce.

Dr. Bryson introduced Dr. Andrae to Kettle Creek, but Bryson's knowledge went far beyond the battle site, and he inspired continued research into other issues related to the Revolutionary War. Kettle Creek fit very nicely into several larger issues, and Dr. Andrae hopes to briefly touch on a few of these in his presentation at the Foundation's meeting.

The speaker was born in San Francisco and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with a math minor. His Masters is in Education Administration from San Francisco State University. He earned his doctorate in Adult Education at the University of Georgia in 1988.

Dr. Andrae served as a teacher in Europe for seven years with the Department of Defense. He returned to the United States with his wife Eliane and two daughters, Nathalie and Catherine. All three are fluent in French.

The Andrae family has called Augusta home for more than 20 years. Both daughters graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology with high and highest honors. Nathalie is now completing her Masters in Chemistry at North Carolina State; and Catherine is working as a research engineer for a firm in Knoxville, Tenn.

Foundation members and other interested persons are encouraged to attend this informative program.
