More memories of Flat Rock - Eudora Huyck says her fondest memories were when she, Lem (who was a little boy them), and Grace Wansley, a neighbor who was also Nobie Keener's mom, would go to Flat Rock together several late afternoons a week. Grace would bring cucumbers in vinegar along as a snack and Lem would eat them all up soon after they arrived. Grace also brought along a bar of soap and insisted that they take a bath in that cold water while they were there. Lem had to really be coaxed into that. I don't blame him. That water was so cold it would make one turn blue. I remember some people would take their cars into the creek and wash them. Larry and Pam Pullen and Lacey and Josh Fincher spent last week vacationing at Myrtle Beach. They had a great time. Visiting with O'Neal and Celeste Adams last week were O'Neal's sister, Maude Mortti, and her daughter, Ann Sheppard of Clearwater Beach, Fla. On Sunday, July 30, at 4 p.m., Tignall Baptist Church will be having "Family Fun Day" on the church grounds and in the Family Life Center. Everyone is to bring picnic type covered dishes and drinks. Games and activities will be planned. There will be food, fun, and fellowship with each other and the Lord. For more information concerning the meal, contact Pat Bobo or Carol McTier. Don't forget the youth cook-out Saturday, July 29, at Hester's Ferry Campground. Please bring a swimsuit, towel, and change of clothes along with sunscreen. The group will leave the church at 10 a.m. Please call Carol McTier or Ann Harrison if you plan to go and have not signed up. I understand the barbecue at Beulah was very successful. They are working hard at getting funds to build a Family Life Center for Beulah Baptist Church. They had four new members to join the church Sunday a week ago and two to join this past Sunday. Sounds like this is a growing church. One of those new members to join Beulah Baptist was Sara Frances Henderson. Last Sunday she visited First Baptist Church in Beech Island, S.C., where she had been a member for 35 years. They really had a surprise for her. There was a program dedicated to her with a video going of pictures of her and her friends and family throughout the years. Her family, children and grandchildren attended with her and of course they knew about this program that the church had planned. Ricky and Wanda Cox just returned from an Alaskan cruise. They spent three days in Seattle and then had a seven day cruise. They saw the Sawyer Glacier and then stopped in Ketchikan, Skagway, and Juneau in Alaska and Prince Rupert in Canada. Those family members on the cruise with Ricky and Wanda were Seth and Dashia Cox and Hunter and Haleigh, Shaun and Ashley Cox and Aubrey, Shannon and Juana Cox and Andrew, and Emily of Winder, and Sherri and Brad Cochran and Abigail of Lawrenceville. Joining the group were friends, Claudine and Jim Nordhues of Hoschton. The community extends sympathy to the family of Allen Echols of Bowersville. He grew up in the Tignall area and attended Tignall High School. Fishing Creek Baptist Church had homecoming Sunday with a packed church. Brian George gave his first sermon as a licensed preacher. Seventeen-year-old Tana Michele Banks of Hephzibah, granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Denard, will celebrate her first acting role in the upcoming movie, "American Street Fighters." In this movie, Tana plays the role as the kidnapped granddaughter named Serena. The World Premier is July 30 at 7 p.m., at the Imperial Theater in Augusta. Friends and relatives are invited to attend. Tickets are $6 each and can be purchased at the theater. Tana is the daughter of Chris and Kathy Wellman of Hephzibah and Randy Banks of Lincolnton. This family must be very proud of talented Tana. It must be the season for tearing down old houses and buildings. The old Teems house has been torn down and James Watts has torn down his barbecue building. He is rebuilding the barbecue place which is good news. Does anyone know how frogs get into bathroom commodes? We know of two families who have found frogs in theirs. One was a big green frog that seemed to blink when they peered down at him and the other one was a tiny frog. Maybe they were looking for water, but since we had had the rain, let's hope they will stay outside where they belong.
