Molly Newsome takes second in recent state 4-H Congress
Senior Wilkes County 4-H member Molly Newsome was awarded second place for her history project featuring the Watson-Brown Foundation. Molly Newsome, Wilkes County 4-H member, competed at State 4H Congress in Atlanta held July 1821. Molly, daughter of Mary and Sparky Newsome, competed as a District 4-H winner in the History Project.
State Congress allows participants to practice their demonstration skills as well as interview skills. 4-Hers also enjoy donor tours, the presentation of awards after hours at Six Flags, a formal awards banquet, and even a dance.
A 4-H project portfolio is submitted by each 4-H member prior to State Congress. The portfolio is a resume of project work, citizenship
work, and leadership work the 4-Her completed during the year. Final scores are a combination of portfolio scores and the demonstration at State Congress.
"4-Hers work hard all year to reach the honor of participating at State Congress," said Wilkes County Extension Coordinator Marcie Simpson. "Molly was able to showcase her work with the Watson Brown Foundation, her local community service, and her 4-H leadership in her project portfolio."
Simpson attended State 4-H Congress with Molly. For more information about 4-H in Wilkes County, contact the County Extension Office at 678-2332.
