Tignall News
Visiting with Leon and Linda Aycock last week was their grandson, Dillan Aycock of Dublin. Their other grandson, Greg Callaway of Washington, came out and visited some while Dillan was here. They are both 14 years old. Also, I hear that Linda and Leon had a quiet dinner in celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary. That's the way to celebrate when you've been married that long. Visiting with Daisy Parker this week have been Pam and Phillip Barnwell and their daughter Virginia of Houston, Texas. Guests last Friday of Albert and Eudora Huyck were Albert's son Charles and his wife Pam of Fernandina Beach, Fla., and grandson Adam of Helen. Visiting with Carolyn Gammon last Friday was Carolyn (Heard) Snider of Martinez. She spent the day and they went out to lunch. They have been friends since childhood, so when they get together they have plenty to catch up on. Both enjoy talking. The North Wilkes Steering Committee will be meeting tonight at the Tignall Lunchroom. They are getting plans together for the fifth annual I'd Rather Be in Tignall Fall Festival. It will be better than ever. Anyone wanting to join the steering committee and help with this event, please come to the meeting at 6:30 p.m. I understand that the group that went to Wildcat Mountain camping from Tignall Baptist Church had a relaxing time. They did have some interference from bears and a mouse. Preacher Dale and his family have a renovated school bus fixed up as a camper. He gave tours through his "weinerbago" at the Family Fun Day at the church Sunday afternoon. Family Fun Day was a wet one. The Little Rascals all decided to get Preacher Dale wet with water guns, but he turned on them with the water hose. They all had a delicious picnic meal and some of the adults sat and watched the others at play. This turned out to be a really fun day for all. Awana, a Bible training fun for children ages three through high school will start back on August 27 from 6-7:30 p.m. at Tignall Baptist Church. All children are welcomed. Awana will be going on every Sunday night throughout the school year. These children learn Bible verses and good Bible training in a fun way. Visiting Sara Frances Henderson over the weekend were her sisters, Betty Reese of Washington, Barbara Oakley and her husband of Hampton. Her brother, Albert Rhodes Jr., and wife Carolyn of McDonough came to stay in their home over the weekend. All the brothers and sisters then got together for the weekend. Members from Beulah Baptist Church had a picnic at The Point, the beach back of John and Sally Kennedy's place. The rain ran the group into the Kennedys' basement which didn't stop them from having fun. Weekend guests of Gloria and Layton Harris over the weekend were Tracy and Marti Harris and family of Elberton; Tony Harris of Atlanta; Derrick, Laken, and Lindsey Harris and Chad Davis, all of Greenwood and Abbeville; Curtis and Robbie Tanner and Phil Tanner of Washington; Jacob and Dylan Harris of Cleveland; and those from the Tignall area, Jimmy and Carolyn Harper and family; Haley Long, Mike Standard, Justin Harris, and Mr. and Mrs. Jamey Kittle. Austin Mack, Pat Mack's grandson, spent last week at KOA camping in Cherokee with his mother and her family of Elberton. Mary Will and Ralph Denard spent last week at the Yonah Mountain Campground and enjoyed the Georgia Mountain Fair. At the concerts at the fair they saw Ray Price on night and then Billy Joe Royal and B.J. Thomas. Marion and Tony Hammond hosted a pool party at their home for the Sunday School children of Mallorysville Baptist Church. They had fun swimming and then enjoyed hotdogs, hamburgers, and all the trimmings. The children enjoying this party were from the age of six months to 14 years. Those adults at the party other than Marion and Tony were Rev. Donnie Berry, April Canter, Angie Thornton, and Heather and Marc Hammond.
Congratulations to Louise and Darden Denard on the birth of a great-granddaughter, Olivia, born to Jessica and Jason Mathias of Mississippi, and granddaughter of Danny and Tammy Price. While babysitting twin granddaughters Saturday night, Carolyn Gammon was brought two baby dolls to rock for Kara and Kaci. They told them she was rocking twins, so Kara brought another doll to her and said, "Now you have chicklets (triplets)!"
