Phillips Mill Baptist Church will be among churches of the Georgia Baptist Association taking part in an Associational mission project - Christmas In August - collecting items for the Georgia Baptist Children's Home. The list includes school supplies, personals such as toothpaste, etc. A list will be posted at the church and boxed items will be carried to the Mission Center in Washington for the Christmas In August party on Saturday morning, August 26, at 10 a.m. All churches of the Association are encouraged to take part. Thanks ahead of time. Congratulations to Lauree Shelton on her 20th anniversary as administrative secretary for the Georgia Baptist Association. Lauree is a very nice and thoughtful young lady with patience and a fun side, and is very helpful. Thanks, Lauree. Congratulations to Lillian Hazel Parker and Elmo L. Rayner who were united in marriage Saturday afternoon, July 29, at 4 o'clock at Phillips Mill Baptist Church on the Greensboro Road in Washington with his brother, Rev. Robert Rayner, pastor, performing the ceremony. A large number of family and friends from different states attended plus new friends at Phillips Mill. A nice reception followed in the church fellowship hall. On Sunday, July 30, those attending the morning worship service were invited to join the couple for leftovers in the fellowship hall. A good many did, including Mrs. Leonora Ogletree Lunsford, who celebrated her 91st birthday Sunday. Best wishes and good health to this nice couple. I would like to thank all of you who continue to visit the sick and shut-ins and do thoughtful things to help those who wait upon them. I don't know what else will happen to me (Priscilla). On April 24 I fell and fractured my pelvis in the Phillips Mill Cemetery. On June 26, I entered the Elberton Hospital with a heart attack. Then I went on vacation with Mary Jane and Tyler to Tennessee. The day we left for home she carried me to nearby Jefferson City, Tenn., to find out when my father's youngest brother, Albert Sidney Johnson, died, as he and my father, Emmet Lyle Johnson, were the only two of 10 children not buried at Phillips Mill along with parents. Things went really good getting help and information as to which cemetery my uncle was buried in. When we went to the cemetery it had begun to rain, and guess what happened! I slipped and fell again - that's Friday, July 14. Tyler went for help and help came soon, to help get me in the car. We got home at 2:30 a.m. Saturday morning. My right arm is in a full cast. My wrist is broken.
