Homecoming will be held at County Line Baptist Church Sunday, August 6, with Rev. J.B. Redd bringing the special message. Dinner will follow at the noon hour. Revival services will be Monday through Thursday at 7:30 p.m. with Rev. Donnie Berry as guest speaker. Homecoming will be held at Rock United Methodist Church Sunday, August 20, at 11 a.m. Rev. Gary Dean, District Superintendent, will bring the message. A covered dish dinner will be held in the fellowship hall immediately following the service. Everyone is invited to attend. We got a storm Saturday afternoon. We were real glad to get the rain. J.W. enjoyed the storm at home while I was at Lamar and Kay Berry's house enjoying it with them. J.W. was so glad that he came to their house to see what was going on there. I have heard several people say they're looking forward to fall. I've had a rough time the past two weeks with something like the flu and I'm still feeling the effects of it. Last Tuesday, my cousin,
Kathleen Canup and her husband, James, of Lexington showed up at my door with two nice KFC dinners for J.W. and me. We enjoyed them so much. Kathleen knew I was wanting to go out to eat. Crystal Booth was honored with a lovely bridal shower Saturday afternoon in the fellowship hall of Rock United Methodist Church. She received many nice and useful gifts. Trey Berry and Wright Gunter joined other Wilkes County FFA officers and their advisers last Monday to camp out at Wildcat Creek State Park in the mountains of North Georgia. They enjoyed fishing and other fun things. Mrs. Dorothy Callaway had surgery Wednesday at MCG in Augusta. She was reported to be improving. Her family has been visiting her every day. Mrs. Martha Williford has come home from the hospital in Snellville. Her daughter, Robin Hubbard, has been staying with her and seeing after her every need. Meredith Gunter is doing well after having an appendectomy last week. On our prayer list are Gary Rogers, Pete Poss, Kathryn Padgett, Stephanie Chapman, Rubye Armour, Ellie Frey, Jonathan Grier, Jason Thrasher, Dorothy Callaway, Martha Williford, Joan Echols, Pam Hall, Helen Cowart, Bobby Parton, Roberta Roper, Mike Webb, Luther Berryman, Sharon Smith, and Joe Jones. Mrs. Joyce Blackburn, Mrs. Marian Poss, Mrs. Frances Ogletree, Mrs. Bernice McAvoy, Mrs. Gail Gilbreath, and Mr. and Mrs. Pete Hardy enjoyed getting together for dinner at Ivery's in Thomson Thursday. Fred Corbett has enjoyed having as visitors this past week, J.W. and Bonnie Boatwright, Peggy Echols, Penny Vaughn, Ruth Flynt, Shawn Turner and Amber, Rev. Jim Edwards, and Richard Byrd. Troy and Shirley Chafin and Haley had most of the family to come and eat barbecued chicken with all the trimmings with them Sunday night. Sybil Vaughn, Donnie Berry, Shelley Parker and Bradley had Sunday dinner with Betty Berry. Betty Berry enjoyed attending the bridal shower at Rock Methodist Church fellowship hall Saturday afternoon honoring Crystal Booth. Nina Boatwright and Kris Berry spent several days in Cleveland at a food services conference, getting ready to cook for the school children. Joann Perez has enjoyed having her grandchildren from Bang, Texas, to visit with them for the last two weeks. They are the children of Mrs. Cindy Francois and husband and are Taylor, Raeleigh, and Michael. Peggy Echols and Shirley Chafin enjoyed going to Athens Wednesday afternoon. Kathryn Shedd and Gail Stewart attended the WMU Memorial Service Tuesday night at the Mission Center in Washington. Paul and Hannah Wright and Ava ate Sunday dinner with Tim and Gail Stewart. Sudie Kennedy and Ann Williamson enjoyed the day in Thomson Friday. Bobby Armour treated Debra and Frances Fendley out to dinner at Ryan's in Thomson Sunday in honor of their birthdays. Debra's birthday was July 29 and Frances' was August 4. George and Mozelle Casey and Frances Fendley went to Johnson, S.C., one day to get peaches and came back by Augusta to visit with Mozelle and Frances' sister, Virginia Fong. Mrs. Ruby Arnold, Aaliya Berry, Johnson and Rhonda attended a birthday party for Angie Williford
at the home of Robin Hubbard in Lexington Sunday afternoon. Martha Williford also attended. Faye Johnson of Gray was here for the weekend visiting Ruby Arnold and other relatives. All have been visiting Dorothy Callaway at MCG in Augusta. Dorothy was reported feeling better. Mrs. Ruby Arnold visited Mrs. Shirley Davis one day during the week. Heyden Lewis of Athens spent Friday through Sunday with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Billy Walker. John Orr and Walker of Lawrenceville came down on Saturday to attend the tractor pull in Aonia with Billy and Heyden. Billy participated in the pull. Mr. and Mrs. George Wideman's visitors have been Tom Hardy, Gene Winfrey, James, David, and Mathew Wideman. Ann visited her mother, Mrs. Laura Hester, in Wilkes Health Care Center in Washington; Mrs. Ralph Smith, Mrs. Buster Winfrey, Sherry Mosier, and Jonathan Wilkes. George and Ann Wideman enjoyed going to revival at Bethel and enjoyed ice cream with them. Sunday guests of Buck and Linda Echols were Greg and Angela Armour, Samantha and Hunter, Scott and Sissy Smith, Abby and J.T., and Richard and Lou Heard and Mattie. Penny Vaughn of Martinez spent Tuesday with her mother, Mrs. Annie Blanche Vaughn. Tucker and Brenda Vaughn of Martinez spent the weekend with her. Kim Frankel, Zachery and Kyle, spent the day Sunday with Clyde and Sandy Whittington. They made a churn of peach ice cream and invited Lindley and Avery Hall, and Keaton Wilson to come enjoy it with them. August birthdays that I know about are Wadine Cosby, Chris Lunceford, Ricky Brittain, August 3; Frances Fendley, August 4; Frankie Jones, August 7; Cody Armour, August 8; Josh Dobbs, August 9; Monica Gunter, August 11; Joyce Bowen, August 13; Ruby Booth, Shavanti Brittain, August 17; John Armour, August 18; Mitch Davis, August 21; Chuck Berry, Joni Bruce and Johnny Adams, August 24; Stephanie Bowen, August 26; and Beth Armour, August 31. Bobcats, wild hogs, armadillos and bears. Where in the world are they coming from? Ruth Flynt spotted a bobcat as she was driving on the Sardis Church Road. Thomas Wideman reported that his yard was torn up by wild hogs and someone shot one near his house and he buried it. Margie Randall had an armadillo at her apple tree. Skunks and armadillos are all over the place and bears are in Washington, Salem, and Lexington. What can be next?
