JASON CHAPMAN JASON CHAPMAN Jason Chapman first set foot on the campus of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC) to visit his sister. Now the sophomore animal science major from Washington is set to serve as the Student Government Association (SGA) President for the 2006-2007 year.

"I would stay with my sister during the summer, and I enjoyed the atmosphere of ABAC," Jason said. "I wanted to start someplace that I could get my bearings, and ABAC has already won me over with its big campus feel and small town atmosphere."

His sister, Audra, was the one who encouraged him to join ABAC's SGA. "I joined SGA as a senator and as a freshman class officer before becoming president," Jason said.

"I applied for the position of president on a whim and in the end it was pretty much handed to me. The candidate who was running against me decided to drop out because of academic obligations," Jason said.

Jason is a member of the Pre-Vet Club and helps with campus events. "I try to help out with as many activities as possible," he said. "My hobby is being involved . . . it's what I like to do." Jason was also a candidate in the 2006 Mr. ABAC competition.

"What I like best about SGA is the driving force it has on the campus and being there to help other students," Jason said. "It's a brotherhood. As president, I am proud to represent ABAC."

Once Chapman has completed his ABAC education, he plans to attend the University of Georgia to major either animal science or pre-veterinary medicine. "I plan on going all the way through to receive my doctorate," Jason said.

"My goal is to work with exotic animals. My ideal job would be to work for a zoo as the in-house veterinarian and participate in animal husbandry, as well."

Jason will graduate from ABAC in the spring of 2007 with an associate's degree in animal science. ABAC fall term classes begin August 21.

He is the son of Stephanie and Larry Chapman of WashingtonWilkes and is a graduate of Washington Wilkes Comprehensive High School.
