Homecoming will be held at Rock United Methodist Church Sunday, August 20, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Gary Dean, District Superintendent of the Methodist Charge, bringing the special message. A covered dish dinner will follow at the noon hour. Everyone is invited to attend. Revival services are being held this week at County Line Baptist Church Monday through Thursday evenings at 7:30 p.m. with Rev. Donnie Berry as guest speaker. A large crowd attended homecoming at County Line Baptist Church Sunday. Rev. J.B. Redd brought the special message. Midge Walker led the singing of beautiful oldtime hymns with Fran Thaxton as pianist. Carla Thaxton Brown held the audience spellbound as she sang two beautiful songs. Delicious barbecue and stew and a covered dish lunch were served in the fellowship hall at the noon hour. Fred Corbett and Bonnie Boatwright attended homecoming at County Line Baptist Church Sunday as guests of Ruth Flynt. We enjoyed the service and the dinner and getting to see many people whom we hardly ever see. It was a great day. Marian Poss also enjoyed going to the homecoming at County Line Baptist Church Sunday. Mrs. Jean McDonald of Rome spent the weekend with Mrs. Annie Blanche Vaughn. Bonnie Boatwright had a brain scan about three weeks ago and received word that it was abnormal. Being too sick with something else to go get the results had everyone in the family (husband, children, sisters, brother, and cousins) worried to death because they thought the worst. Not being worried myself, I finally did go last Tuesday and was told by the doctor that my sinuses were badly infected and I had an infection behind the eardrum and fluid in my ear. The doctor gave me three different medicines and I'm already nearly well after three weeks of the mess. Now I can be on the go again eating out and doing everything that I do. One man asked another how big is that woman? I have been told that person gets a News-Reporter every Thursday morning just to see what all I have done. I appreciate that and I want the people to know that I'm having so much fun. I'm not any different from anyone else. Some just don't want anyone to know what they do. We pick up meals to bring home all the time and also eat out more than you know. I admire the ones who will put their news in the paper for the shut-ins and people who don't get out much to enjoy. They like reading all about what is going on around them. I get many calls and even letters telling me that they enjoy my news. We, the correspondents, need more cooperation from the community in relating the news. I admire Priscilla Maxwell for writing her Tyrone news with her broken wrist and with all that she has been through and I'm glad that she did so well and kept on going. Bravo! All the community writers do a good job and I read all of them and enjoy them and learn from them. J.W. and I look forward to our News-Reporter every week. Sometimes we'll pick up two because both of us can't read it first. Even though we get one in the mail we have plenty of people to share one with. My daughter reads it on-line, also reading it on-line is a niece in Florida, a niece in Suwanee and a nephew in Ballground, and there are probably more in the family who read it on-line that I just don't know about yet. We need to know what is going on in our community. I was sorry to see that the Watchmaker's Restaurant had closed. I am also sad to see and hear about Hexcel (formerly ClarkSchwebel) closing I worked there for 21 years and have many good memories. It just makes my day to see someone with whom I worked. A dear friend, Frances Vinson who lives over in Tignall, with whom I also worked, called me one day last week and I enjoyed hearing from her. The News-Reporter keeps us in touch and we learn a lot from it. Fran Thaxton joined J.W. and Kathleen Canup and Margaret Peterman of Lexington Tuesday and went over to Elberton to Wendy's to play bingo. Kay Berry and Brooke Berry, Kaitlyn and Bryson enjoyed spending Saturday afternoon in Athens. They treated Kaitlyn and Bryson at Chuck E Cheese.
