Mr. and Mrs. Gene Edwards were hosts at a "Come Celebrate the Marriage" gathering and barbecue honoring Mr. and Mrs. Rodney Holloway of Yew Gardens, N.Y. at the Edwards home on Saturday evening, September 2.

Mr. and Mrs. Duncan Johnson and Morgan of Augusta assisted the hosts in entertaining.

Mr. and Mrs. Holloway were married June 23 in Yew Gardens, N.Y. Mrs. Holloway is the former Maria Velazquez.

A large white lighted tent was placed in the yard that was beautifully manicured and decorated for the occasion. Colorful plants filled flowerbeds and hanging and potted ferns were placed about. Tent poles were wrapped in white and at the base of each and the stakes were large decorative pots filled to overflowing with coleus and yellow chrysanthemums and ferns.

The patio featured a table for the celebration cake that was topped with a miniature Georgia Bulldog helmet filled with daisies. Delicious banana pudding was also served from the table. Pictures of the couple were scattered about the table for guests to enjoy. This table and a nearby table with beverages and a tiered server filled with homemade cheese straws were covered with red and white checked cloths. Arrangements of daisies and zinnias decorated both tables.

Mr. Edwards welcomed everyone and especially the new bride into the family. He also introduced her family and friends to the hosts of guests. After his welcome and toast, Duncan Johnson offered the blessing for the barbecue dinner.

Under the tent a long buffet was covered with brown paper with red and white accenting overlays. Red and white cloths also accented the serving pieces. A large ceramic pig featured a chalkboard on which was written "Congratulations Rodney and Maria". Guests enjoyed barbecue and stew with all the trimmings. Guests were seated at tables rolled with brown paper. Places were marked with red and white checked mats. Mason jars tied with red and white checked ribbon and raffia and centered on squares of burlap decorated the tables.

A large number of family members and close friends attended. Out-of-town guests included Nector Caines and Elizabeth Soria of New York, Richie and Liz Velazquez of New Jersey, Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Greene and family of Rock Hill, S.C., Mr. and Mrs. John Painter and family of Marietta, Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Foster of Sparta, Shea and Carrie Lindsey of Union Point, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Edwards and family of Alpharetta, Mrs. Bobbie Smith of Athens, Mrs. Ralph Snider, Mrs. John Parton, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Banks, Brad Thornton and Mrs. Meredith Brooks of Lincolnton and Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Davis of Crawford.
