Volunteer Leadership Summit scheduled for Oct. 14 by ACS

The American Cancer Society will hold a Volunteer Leadership Summit at The Depot in Thomson on Saturday, October 14.

This volunteer conference is one of nine summits scheduled around the state to provide new and experienced volunteers with training to help them become more effective in the fight against cancer in their communities.

Each of the summits will offer two tracks. One is designed for new or single-focused volunteers and will provide basic information about the Society's grassroots involvement, local fundraising and volunteer-staff partnerships. A second track is targeted to veteran, multi-focused volunteers and will feature interactive workshops with the community assessment tool to discuss the cancer burden, building community structures, and volunteer recruitment.

"Volunteers are the driving force behind the American Cancer Society's community-based efforts to provide cancer education and service," said Summer Garrison, Community Manager for the American Cancer Society in Augusta. "The Volunteer Leadership Summits are designed to provide all levels of volunteers with information and training to help them become more effective at getting the word out about cancer and recruiting others to join the fight."

Nine Volunteer Leadership Summits will be held statewide from August through October.
