New Salem Baptist Church on the Greensboro Road honored its pastor, Rev. R.L. Reynolds, Sunday, September 17, for 31 years as their pastor. They enjoyed lunch together prior to the service. Guest speaker was Rev. Charles Belton. They were also happy to have friends, Mr. Hawkins and Mr. Hall, of Atlanta as guests helping with music. Congratulations and best wishes to both Rev. Reynolds and his wife Lucy and members of New Salem for these many years of teamwork. New Salem is a daughter church of Phillips Mill Baptist Church which dates back to 1785. A reminder to the churches of the Georgia Baptist Association of two nice events coming up in the Association the first part of October: on Monday, October 9, at the Tignall Baptist Church, a senior adult rally will be held at 3 p.m. The speaker will be Joe Mason with "Humor in a Mason Jar." All senior adults are encouraged to participate. There will be an afternoon meal. Please contact Pat Bobo, our senior adult director, at 285-2272, or Lauree at the Mission Center, 678-7381, to let them know if you plan to attend so the cooks will know how to prepare and for more information. They would like to know by Thursday, October 5. On Tuesday, October 17, at 3 p.m., the 222nd annual fall meeting of the Georgia Baptist Association will be held with Penfield Baptist Church. We hope all churches of the Association can take part. Visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Dan McAvoy and Jerry McAvoy were Lois Nunn, Gloria Hardy, Henry McAvoy, Donnie McAvoy, Priscilla Maxwell, and grandson Tyler. Mrs. Virginia Stevens Hunter appreciates everyone's prayers and loving concern. She has undergone her second treatment for cancer and has a good outlook of faith. It was good to see her at Sunday School Sunday at Phillips Mill. She and her sister, Helen Lamar, visited Helen's son, Bobby Lamar, and his wife Geraldine in Union Point Sunday afternoon. We were happy to have Mr. and Mrs. Troy Locklear of Liberty Baptist Church in Charlotte, N.C., at worship service Sunday morning at Phillips Mill. They spent the weekend with their daughter, Carrie Johnson, and her husband Russell, and two sweet little girls who recently purchased the former Phillips Mill pastorium. We would like to say congratulations and best wishes to Tabor Baptist Church of the Georgia Baptist Association near Tignall. Their pastor, Paul Reviere, and his wife Ann celebrate 33 years of marriage this month and he has been their pastor for 31 years. Sounds like team work, love and acceptance of each other to me. Something you don't hear of often. God bless you. May God bless each of you. I've read that a pint of example is worth more than a bushel of advice.
