Tignall News
I've heard that there are three ways to get something done: (1) do it yourself; (2) hire someone to do it; and (3) forbid your kids to do it. Well, if you are a senior adult at Tignall Baptist Church you can get a free car wash and a light meal next Saturday, September 23,, from 12 p.m. until 4 p.m. The Men's Ministry along with the help of the ladies of the church are doing all this for our senior adults. As I have said before, there are some advantages to being a senior adult. Keep Danny Price in your prayers as he has knee surgery Wednesday. Also, his mother-in-law, Louise Denard, is having some heart problems so let's remember her in our prayers, too. Johnny Truitt and Kenny Long went to the Medical College of Georgia to visit with Jerry Wilson who is a patient there. We are glad to know he is improving. They are hoping to get him off the ventilator this week. Myrline Thornton recently spent four days at Fripp Island with her daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Rudy Jacobs, from Monticello. They stayed in the cottage that the Jacobses own. They had a very relaxing time, but Myrline says she got sunburned and a cold while there. Scott and Kathy Ware and Stacey enjoyed a fish fry at the home of Kathy's parents, Paul and Gail Vandiver in Union Point. The family of Vivian and Louie Wolozin celebrated Louie's 91st birthday Sunday at the Red Lobster in Athens. We are glad that Vivian was able to go with them. The ladies retreat in Toccoa was enjoyed by all who attended. The speaker for the retreat was Nancy Burgess who does Heart and Soul Ministries for pastors' wives. The theme was "Vessels for the Master's Use." Their theme song was "Sanctuary." The drama team called Good News Players was from Belmont Hills Baptist Church in Decatur. Christie Slade was in charge of the music. There were 48 ladies who attended this retreat. Remember, Mallorysville Baptist Church welcomes you to homecoming at their church next Sunday, September 24. They will be having revival services from Sunday night through Wednesday night at 7:30 with Rev. Paul Revere bringing the message each night. We extend sympathy to the family of Carl Bailey, his wife Joann, his sons, Thomas and Carl Jr., and daughter Teresa. Coty, Jesse and Shane Denard went on a Boy Scout trip, canoeing down the Savannah River over the weekend. They put in at Mike Padgett's in Augusta and canoed over 25 miles. They spent the night in tents at Cliff Hargrove's place in Burke County. They had a big campfire supper Saturday night and a campfire breakfast Sunday morning. Walker Hargrove gave a devotional. They returned Sunday. They had a beautiful weekend for this outing. Sympathy is extended to the family of Mrs. Edith Anthony; and further, what a beautiful tribute to her life written in a letter to the editor by Kathy Nash Callaway. Another great tribute was David Boyd's "Thanks for the Memories" regarding the recent passing of longtime Georgia and later Georgia Southern coach - the great Erk Russell. Thank you, Washington-Wilkes Tigers for that hard-fought win over the Lincoln County Red Devils! Go Tigers! If you have been out and about at night during the last week, have you noticed the big cellular tower red light? Tignall is finally getting a skyline - maybe not the magnitude of Atlanta, Augusta, Athens; but, more than, say Fortsonia, Amity. We're moving on up!
