Red Ribbon Week will feature lots of activities and contests
By W-WMS SEVENTH AND EIGHTH GRADERS

We have just completed a great, productive week at Washington-Wilkes Middle School. In our school, we have many exciting events planned for this upcoming week including Red Ribbon Week, a dance, and a book fair.

The middle school Beta club helped raise approximately $400 for the Beta Sigma Phi, Nancy C. Long Walk of Hope. The teachers paid $5 a day to dress down and they also sold hearts for a quarter. These hearts were posted on a banner in the lobby of the school.

As part of Red Ribbon Week we will have dress-up days and daily activities including a door decorating contest, a poetry contest, and a poster contest. During Red Ribbon Week students will discuss the importance of being drug-free. We encourage all students to participate in the fun activities planned.

On Thursday, October 26, the school has planned a dance for all middle school students. Students, be sure to wear your finest attire as we dance the day away. W-WMS will also hold a book fair on October 30 through November 3. Be sure to save your money to buy the great books you will find at the book fair. Our middle and high school math teachers will participate in Vertical Teaming at Rock Eagle on Friday, October 20.

In other news, the football team completed a perfect season with a 5-0 record on Thursday. The Tigers beat the Mustangs of Madison County by a score of 38-6. Deon Jackson, Demoris Jackson, and Eric Scott all scored for the Tigers. After the game parents came and supported them by hosting a cookout back at the middle school in honor of their hard work and a winning season. Coach Keiser would like to thank Coach Mason, Coach Wilson, and Coach Usry for their help and he would also like to thank the parents for their support throughout the year. He is extremely proud of the boys and the way they played this year. Congratulations Tigers!
