Rev. Albert W. Huyck Jr. set to retire for second time Sunday
Rev. Albert W. Huyck Jr. will retire as pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church at the end of October after serving for the past nine years. He will be honored by the church on Sunday, October 22, during the morning worship service.
Shortly after his retirement as pastor of the First Baptist Church, Washington, for 25 years, Rev. Huyck became pastor of the Ebenezer church and has served in that capacity since that time.
Dr. Leonard Dupree will become the interim pastor of the church on November 1. Dr. Dupree is a former pastor of the Thomson First Baptist Church. He has held several revivals in Wilkes County, including Tignall Baptist Church, Ebenezer Baptist Church, and two at the First Baptist Church, Washington. James Smith, chairman of the dea-
cons at Ebenezer, read a letter to the congregation during the Sunday morning service October 15 in which Dr. Dupree accepted the church's call to be interim pastor.
Dr. Dupree was the specialist of the church-minister relations department of the Georgia Baptist Convention from 1992 to 2004. He was interim pastor of the Lincolnton Baptist Church beginning in October 2005.
Both Dr. and Mrs. Dupree, the former Jackie Jennings, grew up in Plains and now live in Thomson where he is the founder and president of Media Ministries Inc. He is a graduate of Georgia Southwest State University in Americus where he was valedictorian of his class. He has both a Master of Divinity and a Doctor of Ministry from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Fort Worth, Texas.
