W-W Garden Club meets, hears program on winterizing garden

The Washington-Wilkes Garden Club met in the lovely home of Sally Kennedy on Thursday afternoon, October 12.

Mabel Johnson presided and opened with a devotional by Dr. Bill Baggett entitled "In His Time".

During the business meeting Faye Durham, secretary, gave her report as well as the treasurer's report in the absence of Celeste Adams.

An announcement was made about the Garden Club of Georgia Inc. Azalea District Meeting in Milledgeville on October 25.

Mrs. Johnson presented the program. Topics included winterizing the garden, ridding the garden of invasive plants, buying and planting bulbs, and learning the medicinal purposes of sassafras and sassafras tea.

Hostesses Genevieve Thurmond and Elaine Boiter served delicious refreshments during a time of fellowship.

Present with Mrs. Kennedy were members, Dr. Sophia Bamford, Iris Corbett, Faye Durham, Mabel Johnson, Pat Mack, Genevieve Thurmond, Elaine Boiter, Louise Harper, Paula Butts, Edna Rhodes and Linda Burns, and guests, Carolyn Rhodes and Harper Smith.

The next meeting will be November 9 at 2 p.m. at the Tignall Library. The program will be presented by Linda Burns. Hostesses will be Faye Durham and Celeste Adams.
