Members of the Iris Garden Club enjoyed a field trip to Phinizy Swamp Nature Park in Augusta on Tuesday, October 10.

Phinizy Swamp Nature Park, developed by the Southeastern Natural Sciences Academy, is located only minutes away from downtown Augusta. Following a brief business meeting, the group gathered on an observation deck for a picnic lunch while observing the beauty of the natural wetlands.

After lunch they hiked one of the trails to the Visitors Center and Educational Building where they were greeted by the Park's publicity representative who presented a very informative power point presentation describing the purpose and goals of the Center for Urban River Research

and Center for Ecological Restoration. The group learned about the education and research programs that are ongoing at the park. Following this presentation, one of the educational supervisors took the group for a walk through the wetlands pointing out many of the plants, birds and other wildlife in its natural setting along the boardwalk.

Members present were Ruth Adams, Debbie Holes, Marcia Paxton, Franny Robinson, Cathy Stackhouse, Rena Strickland, Karen Stubbs, Marian Thorpe and Laura Toburen.

The next meeting of the Iris Garden Club will be Tuesday, November 14, at 10 a.m. at the Parish House. The program will be "Roses for the Novice" by Pat Henry from Roses Unlimited.
