AARP to participate in 'Make a Difference Day' set for Oct. 28
The Wilkes County Chapter AARP 5320 voted to participate in "Make a Difference Day" at the meeting on Monday afternoon, October 9, at the Washington-Wilkes Senior Citizens Center.
The Chapter voted to beautify the porch on the Washington-Wilkes Senior Citizens Center by setting out the planters with bulbs and plants for the winter and spring. The Chapter will fund the cost and members will supply the labor and care for the plants. All this will be a part of the Chapter's participation in "Make a Difference Day," the nation's largest day of service, on October 28. Members reported 38 hours of community service activity for September.
Following the business meeting, handouts titled "Fight Flu Early and Stay Well" were distributed to each member and all present were urged to get a flu vaccination.
The group enjoyed light refreshments and a social hour of bingo with trick or treat prizes.
Seventeen members were present for the meeting. Four national members were welcomed to the meeting and invited to join the local chapter.
The next meeting will be November 13, at 2 p.m. at the Senior Center.
